Paula Patton was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 5, 1975. She is the daughter of Joyce Vanraden, a school teacher, and Charles Patton, a lawyer. Patton has two older sisters, Kesha and Chay.
Patton attended the University of Southern California, where she studied film and television production. She graduated in 1997 and began her acting career shortly thereafter.
Patton is a private person and does not often discuss her personal life in public. However, she has spoken out about her divorce from Robin Thicke, saying that it was a difficult time for her.
